HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO....GAVIN!!

STUDENT READERS: This morning we had two 3rd grade readers come to our class and read us a story!

Math: Today we built shapes on the smart board and talked about how many sides and how many corners each shape has.  We began our shape chart where we wrote that triangles have 3 sides and 3 corners and they can look many different ways but they are still a triangle because they have 3 corners and 3 sides.  We next got to practice making and then finding triangles.

Writer's Workshop:  Today was day 1 of our our workshop and we talked about what is expected on the rug during workshop and what we will be learning about.  Today we read a story called Dear Juno.  In the story, Juno and his grandmother wrote letters back and forth to each other.  We then brainstormed stories that we will like to write about during writer's workshop.  Then we had about 10 minutes to draw a picture of our first story and start writing the sounds we hear.  Very nice job Kindergartners!!

WE HAD MUSIC TODAY!
Reading/Phonics:
Today we learned the letter Mm and the sound it makes.  We read the Alphatales story Monkey's Miserable Monday.
We brainstormed M words and worked on our letter M poems.  We played the listening game "Letter Pop."

Read to Self:  We made it to 10 minutes today!  Next week we get to start work on writing!  Way to go Kindergartners!

Reader's Theatre:  Every 3rd week of our reading curriculum we work on something called a reader's theatre.  The students will be broken up into groups of 3 to practice reading and reading fluently.  Today was our introduction day where we did some echo reading.  All of next week we will be practicing with our groups and then "performing" them to the class.  In the past, the students have loved doing these!

Social Studies:  Today was our Time for Kids day.  We talked about cooking and various cultural foods.

WE HAD LIBRARY TODAY:  Here are a few pictures...
