Monday, Oct 6th

Math:  Today in math we played a bingo game where I pulled out a number and they had to color in a box that was filled with that many objects.  We won when we got 4 in a row! We also practiced writing the numbers 1-5.  To help your child at home, I will be sending home some "optional" homework sheets.  It's great practice to help them get down that writing stroke of starting at the top.  Watch for this this week.

Writing:  We worked on a friend's name book...we are almost done and ready to start in with out writer's workshop!

WE HAD PHY ED TODAY!

Reading/Phonics:  Today we worked on the letter Kk and the sound it makes.  We read the Alphatales book Kangaroo Kazoo.  We brainstormed K words and worked on our letter K poem.  We also practiced Read to Self.  We were able to get to 8 minutes again!  Our goal is 10, we can do it!

Social Studies:  We talked about fire safety and watched a short 5 minute video about Sparky the Fire Safety dog.  He taught us how to stay low and get out if we smell smoke and/or hear the smoke alarm.  He told us how important it is to have an escape plan and practice it at home.  We all should talk to our families about where we would go to meet if there was a fire in our house.  Talk with your children tonight about their "meeting spot".  We also talked about what we do if we catch on fire...stop...drop...and roll. Some of us practiced what that looks like!

WE HAD LIBRARY TODAY!
