HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO... MARCUS AND OWEN!!
Math: This week in math we worked on subtraction and practiced using a number line and number cubes. We also watched a fun video introducing the topic. It was called.."When you subtract with a pirate..." Click HERE to check it out.
Math cont. On St. Patrick's day we each got a bag of lucky charms and sorted out the marshmallows and graphed how many of each we got in our bag, when we were finished, we got to eat them! :)
Phonics/Language Arts: This week we learned the ug and ub word families as well as the number words eight and nine.
Reading: This week we practiced making connections and learned about story elements. We read a story called "Who's in the Shed." We used this story to practice making predictions, finding the setting and retelling what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
Writing: This week we learned about what a book review was and are continuing to learn more but will not write our own for another week. We are still working on remembering to use a capital letter, spaces, our brave spelling and a punctuation at the end of your sentence. On St. Patrick's day we wrote about 3 wishes we would make if we caught our very own leprechaun.
Handwriting: We started our lower case letters beginning with letter a.
Other Happenings this week:
St. Patrick's Day!! We watched live coverage of Ireland where leprechauns could be spotted.
We also made an art project and wrote about "How to catch a leprechaun" Come check them out in the hallway!
Today our Leprechaun Lucky hid a pot of gold for us to find. We searched the entire school and finally found a pot of gold hidden in the media center. In the pot was a note that said "you will find something special at your table spot when you return." When we got back to the room it was a MESS!! The leprechauns had come and messed it up! We also found a baggie on our table with a gold coin and some candy.
Science Night!
Scientist's from the Science Museum came out and set up engineering stations in various rooms. Thanks to those who came out to enjoy! It was a great learning experience!!
