A Peek from Last Week...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...MACKENZIE!!

Math: This week in math we have been working with addition and introducing subtraction using number lines.  We did a lot of partner work using cubes and number lines.

Writer's Workshop: This week we introduced Book Reviews.  The students will be writing reviews about books they read individually and books we read together as a class.

Phonics/Language Arts: We learned the og and op word families and the number words seven and eight.  We also played one of our favorite games called "Beat the Teacher!"  The students race against myself to see how many times we can write the chosen snap word.

Reading:  This week we worked on making predictions and inferences.  We are getting really good at this!

Other Special Events from the Week!

We had our pig race.  We took second place but we were proud of our "minion pig" named Stewart!  The classroom from each grade that sold the most items got to decorate a pig to race.

We had storybook reader on Wednesday!

Guest readers...

Gary Harbo Thank you's... Last week Author/Illustrator Gary Harbo came and read one of his books and drew pictures for us for I Love to Read Month.  We wanted to send him thank you cards so we chose one of his "how to draw" characters and drew him pictures and thanked him for coming.

Lucky the Leprechaun... On Thursday afternoon a Leprechaun showed up in our classroom.  He left footprints around the room and left us a coloring sheet and a journal for us.  Each day he will hide and we will need to find him the next morning.  He will be watching for hard work and kindness.  If he sees a lot of good things on St. Patrick's day he will hide a pot of gold for us to find!  We had to give him a name so we brainstormed names and voted for our favorite and LUCKY was the winner!

Art:  This week in Art we were working on a city scene and learned about depth and how to make things look closer or father away.  We will continue to work on these for another week.
