Happy Birthday Billy!!
Star of the Week was...Logan
Math:
This week in math we continued working on sorting shapes. We worked with our ketchup and mustard partners taking turns sorting shapes by size, color and shape and then had to count and write the number on our sorting mats.
iPad Math Friday
Every Friday we will be using the iPads for a math program called "Splash Math." Mrs. Haglin came in on Friday and introduced the iPad cart to us. We learned how to find our iPad from the cart, use one of the apps, and how to put them away when the time is up.
Phonics/Reading:
This week we learned the letters Ee and Ff and the sounds they make. We read the Alphatales storiesThe Enormous Elephant Show and Fifi Ferret's Flute. We practiced finding the letters in our letter poem books and also practiced tracing and writing the letters. We made a letter E and letter F book that we can read.
Handwriting
We began our handwriting instruction by exploring our letter pieces from our Handwriting without Tears curriculum. These pieces include big line, little line, big curve and little curve. We then used these pieces to create "mat man." By learning and building with these wood pieces, the children are getting an understanding on how lines and curves will be used to create letters. Building mat man also helps kids with the understanding of body parts. Many children at this age are still drawing people with legs and arms coming out of their heads. By making mat man the kids are quickly understanding that they need to make a body as well. We had so much fun building mat man with our groups!
Library
On Tuesday we got to check out our first library book. Reminder to please return your child's book by Monday. Please have a safe place to keep your child's book. I suggested to them to keep it in their backpacks and take it out when they want to read it.
Character Education
Mrs. Weninger came into visit us and we practiced being social detectives. We looked for clues as to how she was feeling. She also introduced us to "Superflex." Superflex is a character who is in our brain who helps us be flexible and helps us show expected when we are in school. We will be learning about super flex and all the "unthinkables" that enter our brains at times and tell us to do things unexpected. Watch for each character page to come home each Thursday.
Next Week:
Homecoming is next week and we will be participating in a few of the dress up days, they are as followed..
Monday: America Day- wear red white and blue
Wednesday- wear your favorite sports logo- ex. twins, vikings, gophers etc.
Friday- Irish Spirit Day
Wednesday will be our field trip to the Fire station. Thank to those who are able to volunteer. If you have not done the volunteer training, please contact the office to set that up. Thanks!
We will be learning about fire safety all week and "911." Talk with your child about their "safe spot" to go in case there was a fire at your house. This is a good time of year to check your smoke alarms and practice meeting at your safe place outside.
