I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope you enjoyed your place mats and you all spent time talking about all you are thankful for! Here are some of the highlights from our short week at school.
Math: We worked on decomposing the number 8. Instead of using our chips to help us, we used "us" to help. We had 8 kids come up to the front holding yellow and red cards. We were able to decompose 8 in all the ways. This was a great visual for the kids. We also did some number ordering and some fun turkey math roll and color games.
Phonics/Reading:
letter focus: T
snap word: can
writing: we made our '"I'm Thankful For.." placemats.
Comprehension: we read the story the Three Little Pigs where we analyzed the characters. We were able to conclude that the third little pig was smarter because he chose to build a brick house. We also decided that he was a nice pig because he let his other brothers come and live with him. We also determined that the pigs were tricky because they decided to put a pot of boiling water under the chimney for the wolf who was trying to come in. I was very proud of their answers.
Readers: We had some special readers this week. Lucy brought in a book from home that she read to the class, we had some second graders come in and read and also storybook reader! If your child would like to read a book to the class please send one in and let me know. We will be doing this a lot more in class as well but many children this boosts their confidence as a reader.
We also had a special visit from a turkey who tried to get us to eat pork or chicken for Thanksgiving! Fun!
On Wednesday, we ended up our day by retelling the First Thanksgiving story. Many of you probably saw the bead bracelet your child was wearing. Each bead represents a part of the story. Ask your child to tell you the story of the First Thanksgiving! We also wore our cute pilgrim hats, enjoy!
