I Love to Read Month

In last week's Wednesday envelope you should have seen a calendar describing the activities of the next two weeks.

Book Swap: Thursday (February 19th) is the last day for your child to bring in any books for the book swap.  For how ever many books they bring in they will get tickets to go and pick out that many new books.  Take a look around home, this is a great time to change and update your library at home. Friday the kids who brought in books will go "shop" for their new books.

Unplugged:  If your child does not use electronics for the day, please sign the bright green slip and return to school to be entered into a drawing for a free hotel stay.

Dress up days:  On the calendar it showed the dress up days, they are as followed:

Friday (20th) Pajama Day!!
Friday (27th) Dress up as a Mad Scientist or with Wacky Hair
Monday (March 2nd) Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss Character!

Dental Health Lesson

In the Wednesday envelopes tonight you should have found a blue sheet describing a lesson that Nurse Sarah will be doing with our class next week.  She will be allowing the students who have permission from you to put a dissolving tablet into their mouth that shows where the plaque is(showing where they need to brush better.)  The kids will be practicing brushing their teeth with a new toothbrush before and after.  She will also have a puppet and will show a short video.  If you agree to give your child permission please fill out the blue sheet and return to school ASAP.  If you do not want your child to participate in the dissolving tab please sign and return the blue sheet stating you are not interested in this portion.  IF you did not receive this blue sheet please let me know.  I did have one extra sheet so I believe one student did not receive one.  Please let me know and I will get you one.  Thanks so much!  If you have any questions please call me or Nurse Sarah at 963-3024.  This will be a great experience for the kids!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO...KEARA!

We had some guest readers today...

Math:  Today in math we worked on finding a number that is 1 fewer.  We worked with our partners and then practiced at our tables.

Writer's Workshop:  Today we talked about having a "voice" in our stories.  We worked really hard and each day 1 or 2 students sit in the author's chair and share their stories.

WE HAD PHY ED TODAY!

Phonics/Language Arts: Today we learned about the ig family.  We brainstormed words and worked on our "ig family" book.

Spanish:  Today the students learned some body parts.  They next did a worksheet and practiced by playing "Simon says" and "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" using spanish words.  They had a blast doing this today!

Daily 5:  We started over building our stamina during Daily 5.  We have been needing a lot of reminders to work quietly so we started over and today we did a great job and got back up to 10 minutes.  Way to go Kindergartners!

Tuesday, February 17th

Math: Today was iPad math day.  We learned a new app today called Squeeze.  The kids play with a partner and try and guess the number.  If they choose the wrong number, the monster's tentacle covers up those numbers and says "that number is too big or too small."  We had a great time today!

Writer's Workshop:  Today we reviewed using our brave spelling and remembering to use a capital letter and punctuation.

WE HAD MUSIC TODAY!
