Reader's Theatre:
Every 3rd week in our reading curriculum we work on fluency. This means making reading sound smooth like we are talking. Your child will be part of a group of 3 students. We spend all week practicing our parts and on Friday's we "present" our books to the class. We LOVED performing for our classmates! I am so proud of how well we did!
Writer's Workshop:
This week we started our writer's workshop time. Beginning writing is an important time for your child. They will begin by writing/drawing a picture to put their stories on paper. Next we begin to write the letters of sounds we hear. We call this writing our "brave spelling." No need to worry if the words are not "spelled" correctly. This is called phonetic spelling and it is an important step in the writing process. I am very excited to start this adventure with your children. They are really excited about becoming authors!
Daily 5:
3 Ways to Read a book
Here is a link to a great blog that talks about the ways all kids can read a book.
We then began building our stamina with read to self.
We are working our way up to 15 minutes of quietly reading the whole time. Once we are able to read for 15 minutes we will begin with with work on writing.
