A Peek at the Week...

Star of the Week is...Payton!

Math: This week in math we worked on measuring using the words shorter, taller, same.  We used cubes to measure items around the classroom.  We also worked on our number writing playing the game "beat the teacher."  We loved this game!

Reading/Phonics:
Letter Focus: Y and Z
Snap words: you, by
Comprehension: Sequence of Events

Elf on the Shelf: Our elf Frank has been keeping an eye out on us and reporting to Santa each night!  Each morning we find him hiding in a different place.

Character Education:  Mrs. Weninger introduced us to two new Unthinkables-Topic Twister Meister and D.O.F. Destroyer of Fun.  Topic Twister gets in our brain and makes us think about and talk about things that are off topic.  D.O.F. gets in our brain makes us want to ruin others fun.  They might tell us to cheat at a game or not play what others want us to play.

Reindeer Run: On Friday morning we played reindeer games.  We switched to Mrs. Schrupp's room for a while to make our reindeer hats and Mrs. Tongen's room for a reindeer treat.  Then in our classroom we played Pin the Nose on Rudolph and sang the Reindeer Pokey!  After our switches we ran around the school and the HS cafeteria singing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!"  So much fun!

Santa Visit:  Santa and Mrs. Claus came to visit us on Friday afternoon!  So much fun!

A Peek at the Week...

Happy Birthday to...Clayton!

Star of the week is...Kyrsten!

Math: This week we worked on the words more and fewer.  We played a game where we hid a tower of 10 snap cubes behind our backs and broke them in two. Our partner guessed a hand and the partners world determine which one had more and which one had fewer.  We then wrote our findings on our math talk cards.  We LOVED this game!

Reading/Phonics:
Letter Focus: W and X
Snap words: you, at
Reading Comprehension:  This week we worked on sequence of events.  We looked for signal words such as "first, next, then, finally."

Santa Secret Shop:  On Wednesday we had the opportunity to "shop" for our families at Santa's Secret Shop.  The kids really enjoyed picking out and paying for their own gifts! :)

Character Education:  This week we learned about the Unthinkables One-Sided Sid and Worry Wall.  One Sided-Sid gets into our brains and makes us only talk about and care about ourselves and not others.  Worry wall gets into our brains and makes us worry about everything, even things we can't be in control of.  We talked about how when these Unthinkables get into our brains, we need to think about what Superflex would want us to do!

A Peek at next week:

Friday is our Reindeer Run and Santa Visit--shhh don't tell! :)
