Our student teacher Mrs. Schrupp!

This week we are so lucky to welcome Mrs. Schrupp to our classroom.  She will be working with us for 5 weeks.  Watch for a post soon to learn more about her.  She is a perfect fit for our classroom community! :)

What have we been learning about?

Math:

  • we have been learning about time to the hour and half hour.  Ask me to tell you what time it is!
  • Next week we will be reviewing some of our tougher concepts form earlier in the year.  These include: ordering numbers from smallest to largest, finding a number that is one more or one less, and 3D shapes.  Have your child go on a "3D shape hunt" in your home.  They will be surprised to find many shapes!!
  • The following week we will begin to learn about coins and working and counting with money.

Reading/Language Arts:

  • We have been learning about beginning l blends such as: bl,cl,fl,gl,pl,sl.  Ask me to make words that start with these blends.
  • In reading we have been learning how to compare and contrast ideas while we are reading.
  • In Writer's workshop we have started a new unit learning about book reviews.  We will begin writing our own book reviews soon.
  • In Handwriting we have been working on our lowercase letters and remembering to start ALL letters at the top.  Ask your child to sing you the song.
  • In our book clubs we are continuing to learn about and use our strategies to help us figure out tough words.  Thanks for all your support with reading at home.  It really makes a difference at a school.  THANK YOU!

Science/Social Studies:

  • We will be starting our unit on weather next week.  This sure has been quite the year for watching the weather. We will be learning how to predict and graph weather changes through out a week.
  • We will also be working on our 5 senses.
  • In Social studies we have been learning out careers in our communities.

Art:

  • During St. Patrick's Day week we made a pot of gold with a leprechaun caught inside.  We wrote about how we could catch a leprechaun.  These will be coming home soon.
  • We made rainbows to hang form our ceiling in the classroom.  It sure brightens it up and makes it feel more like spring!
  • This week we are making Easter bunnies with our faces and footprints.  These will be a keepsake! :)

Those "naughty" leprechauns!!

On St. Patrick's Day we went on a hunt for the pot of gold that our leprechaun named "Larry" told us about in a letter.  While we were out searching, Larry and some of his leprechaun friends came into our classroom and WHAT A MESS THEY MADE!!!  He did leave us a gold coin to remember him by! :)
